Vernon in support of extending the farmers’ market coupon project
The City of Vernon will voice its support for a program to help feed people in need.
In 2024, the B.C. Association of Farmer’s Markets, with funding from the province, ran the B.C. Farmers’ Market Nutrition Program.
That program was accessed by the Archway Society for Domestic Peace and the North Okanagan Friendship Centre. A total of 179 lower-income households in Vernon were able to access the coupons, redeeming a combined $80,136 worth of fruits, vegetables, eggs, cheese, meat, herbs, and other nutritious food at the Vernon Farmers Market.
A letter to Vernon City Council asked that the city support the association in calling on the Ministry of Health to fund the program again in 2025.
