A wildfire mitigation project in the Okanagan Landing area will take place next month.

A report to Vernon City Council said a prescribed burn would take place in the area of Longacre Drive and Apollo Road in March.

The city report stated Vernon Fire Rescue Services would do this work in partnership with the B.C. Wildfire Service to do this work.

Vernon’s FireSmart team held public information session on January 25 and February 11 to ensure area residents knew of the work.

Exact dates of the work were not provided, but it was noted that the date of the burn would be determined based on resource availability and weather conditions. The city said it would inform the public head of time once the work had been scheduled.
