Vernon Fire Rescue had a busy start to their day, responding to three separate fires on Thursday morning.

VFRS’s first call of the day came at 7:58 a.m., Feb. 13, and involved a vehicle fire in the 6500 block of Scott Road.

Crews arrived on the scene and discovered an RV fully engulfed in flame, and quickly actioned the blaze. One person was taken to hospital with undisclosed injuries.

Then at 9:18 a.m., firefighters responded to the 3400 block of 27th Avenue.

A fire had started in a tent and spread to surrounding combustible materials. Again, fire crews extinguished the blaze and there were no reported injuries.

A few minutes later at around 9:32 a.m., VFRS was called to the 700 block of Waddington Drive for reports of a structure fire.

Upon arriving at the scene, fire crews found that a recycling area containing cardboard was aflame. That fire was brought under control, but it did cause significant damage to the storage structure and outbuildings.

As of time of publication, the firefighters were still on the scene extinguishing hot spots, and smoke was still visible in the area.

There were no reports of injuries.
