Assault with a weapon trial adjourned to March

The trial of a man charged with assault with a weapon and uttering threats will resume next month.

Dale Babiy appeared in Vernon court Tuesday, Feb. 11, to schedule the closing submission date for his trial. The date was to be scheduled on Feb. 10, but the B.C. Prosecution Service said it was postponed one day,

The court ordered Babiy be back in court March 24 to resume the trial.

Babiy will also be in court on other charges this week.

Babiy was wanted on warrants for assault with a weapon and uttering threats, and in December of 2024 he was located in Vernon in a stolen vehicle.

Police used a spike strip to stop the vehicle. The suspect tried to flee on foot, but was apprehended.

Babiy was charged with flight from police, possession of stolen property, dangerous driving and driving while prohibited in relation to that incident.

Babiy will be in Vernon court Thursday, Feb.13, to consult counsel in relation to those charges.
