Police investigating shooting at a vehicle in Spallumcheen

Feb 6, 2025 | 4:22 PM

Vernon North Okanagan RCMP have launched an investigation into a “suspicious inident” involving an alleged shooting at a vehicle on Highway 97A in Spallumcheen.

Mounties say a silver SUV was travelling north on the highway and came upon the intersection of Greenhow Rd. between 8:15 and 8:25 p.m. Monday, Feb. 3, when the driver noticed a dark coloured SUV following in the same direction.

The driver of the silver SUV then heard a loud bang and believed something had been thrown against the side of the vehicle, so pulled over to the side of the highway.

While inspecting the damage, the other SUV pulled up and people in the vehicle started speaking with the occupants of the silver SUV. A third vehicle then pulled up on the side of the highway, but no one from that car interacted with either of the first two vehicle’s occupants.

The third vehicle, which was not described, then left the scene heading north, and the dark SUV pulled out and left.

“It wasn’t until the silver SUV reached its’ destination when the driver finally had to opportunity to inspect the damage,” Corporal Tania Finn, Media Relations Officer with the Vernon North Okanagan RCMP, said.

“At that time, a single hole was noted in the rear driver’s side which police believe is the result of a projectile from a firearm.”

Vernon North Okanagan RCMP said the incident remained under investigation and were seeking information about the occupants of the third vehicle that appeared on the scene.

Anyone with information about the incident or had dashcam footage from the highway around Spallumcheen from around the time of the incident was asked to contact the police or file an anonymous tip with Crime Stoppers online or at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS).
