Several tourism experiences in the Southern Interior, including some in the Okanagan and Shuswap, are benefiting from a federal investment.

Through Pacific Economic Development Canada (PacifiCan), the federal government is providing over $2-million through the Tourism Growth Program to 14 organizations that maintain outdoor recreation and cultural experiences in B.C.’s Southern Interior.

Among the investments are:

  • $174,000 to expand air service at Kelowna International Airport and promote travel during the shoulder season
  • $240,000 for the Niche Wine Company to transform its West Kelowna winery into a micro-resort
  • $190,731 for the Shuswap Trail Alliance to improve trail networks for mountain biking and hiking
  • $250,000 for CAPOW Guiding to improve infrastructure for backcountry hiking tours near Revelstoke
  • $130,000 for ZipLine Peachland to improve its ziplines and climbing wall
  • $42,000 to improve accessibility on the Nakusp Hot Springs Trail

“The Southern Interior of British Columbia is home to world-class tourism attractions that showcase the stunning natural beauty and rich history and culture of our province,” Harjit Sajjan, federal minister of Emergency Preparedness and Minister responsible for the Pacific Economic Development Agency of Canada, said.

“PacifiCan is proud to support these organizations as they seize growth opportunities and create memorable experiences for both residents and visitors alike. The projects announced today will enhance tourism in rural communities, create good jobs, and strengthen the local economy.”
