The Regional District of North Okanagan is calling for a hefty tax increase for the Greater Vernon Cultural Centre in 2025.

The Greater Vernon Advisory Committee (GVAC) was presented with a proposed budget of $10,421,241 million for the project in 2025. That was up from the pervious year’s budget of $7.4-million.

To account for the increase, the report said the tax requisition would have to increase 170.3 per cent, or $3.03-million, to reach a total of $4,812,798 in 2025.

Vernon residents would cover 67.2 per cent of the tax requisition total, coming in at over $3.2-million. Coldstream residents would pay for 17 per cent of that total, or $817,109, while Electoral Area B and C residents would each cover 7.9 per cent, or $380,220 and $379,473, respectively.
