Lumby Murder Inquiry

Inquiry into Lumby murder case to go in the spring

Jan 14, 2025 | 6:00 AM

A preliminary inquiry into the murder of a woman in Lumby last April will be held in the spring.

The B.C. Prosecution Service said the inquiry into the case involving Vitali Stefanski, accused of second-degree murder, will go from March 31 to April 3, 2025.

The inquiry is a hearing where the court will determine wether there’s any evidence that a reasonable, properly instructed jury, could use to determine a conviction.

If the judge is satisfied with the evidence presented, then they can deem that the accused is “committed to stand trial” in Supreme Court at a future date to be determined by the court.
