Oliver, Olivia the most popular baby names in B.C. in 2024

The most popular male baby name in the province has changed.

There were 216 Olivers born in B.C. in 2024, surpassing Noah, which was the previous year’s most popular name.

There were also 172 Olivias born in 2024, making it the most popular female baby name for the ninth straight year.

The most popular baby names in 2024 were as follows:

Oliver – 216

Olivia – 172

Liam – 166

Charlotte – 146

Noah – 163

Isla – 135

Theodore – 151

Amelia – 134

Lucas – 144

Emma – 121

Leo – 125

Sophia – 117

William – 120

Chloe – 110

Henry – 120

Ava – 108

Ethan – 116

Lily – 105

Levi – 115

Evelyn – 100

As of December 16, there were 38,103 babies born in B.C. in 2024.

Vital Statistics, the province’s data collection agency, had not fully updated it’s figures for 2024, but as of Nov. 1, 2024, there had been 328 births in the Vernon Centre/Coldstream health area. Vernon Matters will provide further details on the local and regional births once the data becomes available.
