Drop Offs Accepted Dec. 27-Jan. 18

Christmas tree disposal site changed to Marshall Field

Dec 6, 2024 | 1:41 PM

Vernonites will need to bring their Christmas trees to a new location for disposal after the holidays this year.

The City of Vernon’s free tree disposal program will run out of the Marshall Field parking lot, located at the west entrance to 5891 Okanagan Landing Rd.

Fresh, live trees can be dropped at the site between Dec. 27 and Jan. 18. The parking lot gate will be open seven days a week from 7:30 a.m. to dusk, though will be closed on statutory holidays.

The city used to accept tree drop-offs at the Kin Race Track property, but that was closed due to the construction of the Active Living Centre, and trees will not be accepted at that site.

People dropping off their trees at Marshall Field are reminded to remove all lights, decorations and tree stands; and that other yard waste, commercial trees, trees with tinsel/flocking/spray foam, artificial trees, or general garbage or waste won’t be accepted.

The city added trees will not be accepted with residential waste or in the curbside organics carts, but can be discarded at the Greater Vernon Diversion and Disposal facility.

Trees discard through the Christmas tree drop off program will be used to create composting material.
