Ski Season Comes Early

Area ski hills prepared for early openings

The cool, wet weather has brought snow to local mountains, allowing skiers and snowboarders to hit the local slopes earlier than anticipated.

Big White, near Kelowna, will open it’s runs Friday, Nov. 22.

That opening will be six days ahead of schedule. As of Thursday, Nov. 21, Big White had a base of 104 cm.

SilverStar Mountain Resort in Vernon will open select chair lifts Saturday, Nov. 23, as will Sun Peaks, outside Kamloops.

Those opening dates were also a full week ahead of schedule. The snow base at both SilverStar and Sun peaks was recorded at 78 cm Thursday.
