All open burning permitted in the Kamloops Fire Centre

Oct 4, 2024 | 10:13 AM

The B.C. Wildfire Service will be rescinding all of its regional open burning restrictions Friday.

Effective at noon Friday, Oct. 4, Category 3 open burning will once again be permitted within the Kamloops Fire Centre.

Category 3 fires included piles of material exceeding two metres in height and three metres in width; one or more windrows that do not exceed 200 metres in length or three metres in width; and burning of stubble or grass over an area larger than 0.2 hectares.

The Wildfire Service (BCWS) noted that people having these fires should remain cautious and be aware of local conditions so the fires do not become out of control.

To ensure fires are safely maintained, people should have water and tools on hand to control the fire; not be burning in windy conditions; create a fire guard around the planned fire site; never leave a fire unattended; and make sure the fire is completely out and ashes are cold to the touch before leaving the area.

BCWS added while the regional fire ban will be rescinded, municipal restrictions may remain in place, and urged people check the restrictions in place by their local government.
