Sediment Pond Dredging

BX Dog Park to be partially closed for sediment pond maintenance

Dog owners will need to find a new place to take their pets for a walk next week.

The City of Vernon will be closing the BX Dog Park Monday and Tuesday, Sept. 23 and 24, for planned maintenance work at the sediment pond.

The city stated the park needed to be temporarily closed so crews could set up equipment and install safety fencing for the annual dredging of the pond, which is done to support flood mitigation efforts downstream.

The dog park will partially reopen Wednesday, Sept. 25, but the area around the sediment pond will be closed to the public until Oct. 15.

The city noted that dog and human activity in the riparian areas can damage vegetation, and asked people keep control of their pets so they do not negatively impact the plants.

While the park is closed, the city advised pet owners and dog walkers instead visit the other dog-friendly locations at Marshall Field Park, Mutrie Road Park, Mission Hill Park, Carlson Park, the Grey Canal Trail, Middleton Mountain Park and Trails, and the pet beaches at Kalamalka Lake and Ellison Provincial Parks.
