Sexual Assault Trial

Trial of former chiropractor accused of sexual assault to resume in the new year

Aug 29, 2024 | 1:25 PM

A Vernon sexual assault trial has been delayed for several months.

The trial of Murray Kievit, a former chiropractor accused of two counts of sexual assault that were alleged to have occurred in December of 2021, began August 6.

However, during the cross-examination, Kievit’s counsel requested a mid-trial adjournment, which was granted.

The accused and his counsel were back in court Wednesday, August 28, to fix continuation dates for the trial.

The B.C. Prosecution Service told Vernon Matters the trial is now set to resume on January 23 and 24, 2025, at the Vernon courthouse, for the hearing of remaining evidence. Closing submissions will be made on April 11, 2025.
