Accessibility Ramp Upgrade

Accessibility upgrades coming to Okanagan Heritage Museum

A cultural facility in Kelowna will become more accessible, though the work to do so will cause some disruptions.

The City of Kelowna said an accessibility project at the Okanagan Heritage Museum will see the front entrance’s accessibility ramp upgraded.

The work is slated to begin August 2 and be done by the end of September. It will focus on upgrading the south end of the loading bay by decreasing the slope of the ramp with added rest areas, realigning the stairs, and installing a sidewalk to improve the path from the Memorial Parkade.

During construction, the museum at 470 Queensway will remain open Monday to Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and on Sundays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

However, there will be no accessibility access to the Heritage Museum while the work is underway, and a large section of the parking lot will be blocked off. Temporary access will be available via wooden stairs, and signs will be in place to direct visitors around the work site and into the museum.
