The Evacuation Order for some properties at risk from the Sitkum Creek wildfire was downgraded Monday.

The Regional District of North Okanagan downgraded the Order to an Alert at around 11:30 a.m., July 29, for the properties at 1616, 1622 and 1630 Sugar Lake Road, along the southern tip of the lake.

The Evacuation Order remained in place for the all lands east of Sugar Lake, from the southern end to the northern tip, excluding those select properties.

The Okanagan Shuswap Forest District also modified the road closure Monday to begin at the 2.5 km mark of Kate Creek Fire Service Road.

People in the area under Evacuation Alert are still reminded to be prepared to leave at a moment’s notice in case the conditions change and an Order is issued once again.

The RDNO also lifted the Evacuation Alert for the seasonal properties located on the west shore of Sugar Lake.

As of the last update from the B.C. Wildfire Service, issued at 1:17 p.m. Monday, the Sitkum Creek wildfire was still listed as Out of Control and 1,993 hectares in size.

The fire was being actioned on the western flank by a ground team of 30 firefighters, with assistance from danger tree fallers and two bucketing helicopters. A machine guard was also established along the western flank of the fire over the weekend.
