A fire that sparked in Kalamalka Provincial Park Thursday evening was quickly extinguished.

The District of Coldstream confirmed that local crews were called to the Cosen’s Bay side of the park for reports of smoke shortly before 5:40 p.m. July 26.

Two of Coldstream’s wildland apparatus and a team of 10 firefighters arrived on the scene and assisted a B.C. Wildfire Service initial response crew in quickly extinguishing the blaze and ensuring there were no hot spots. A bucketing helicopter also dropped six loads of water to help suppress the fire before ground crews arrived on the scene.

The District said lightning was the suspected cause of the fire as a tracker confirmed a strike in that area shortly before they received reports of smoke.
