People displaced following fire in Kelowna

A fire in a residential building has led to some people being forced from their homes.

Kelowna Fire Department said crews responded to reports of a a fire at a residence in the 2000-block of Southview Avenue at around 9:45 a.m. Friday, July 19.

Upon arriving at the scene, firefighters observed smoke and flames showing from a window on the first floor of a two story residence.

The crew acted quickly and knocked down the fire, containing it to one of the two suites in the structure.

All occupants were able to get out of the building and there were no injuries reported.

Though the fire was contained, the residents of both units were displaced. They are being supported by Emergency Support Services.

The Kelowna Fire Department said the fire was deemed accidental.
