Two spot fires sparked in the Mable Lake area, with a few others also burning in the Shuswap area Thursday.

The B.C. Wildfire Service reported two 9m2 wildfires near Mable Lake on July 18.

One was located on the west side of the lake, approximately 10 kilometres south of Kingfisher, at 11:10 a.m. The other, located near Cotton Creek on the east side, was discovered just before 11:40 a.m.

Both were suspected of being caused by lightning strikes, and the BCWS had not assigned any resources to the fires.

Meanwhile, several other fires popped up in the Shuswap in the past 24 hours.

The BCWS said a 0.44 hectare wildfire was located in the Lower Griffin Mountain area off Highway 1 east of Sicamous at around 9:50 a.m., with a 9m2 wildfire found in the Upper Griffin Mountain area west of that first fire at 10 a.m. These were also suspected of being caused by lightning with no resources assigned to them as of the most recent update.

A fourth 9m2 wildfire, also suspected of being caused by lightning with no resources assigned, was uncovered in the Queest Mountain area, located north of Highway 1 and east of Sicamous, at approximately 9:35 a.m.

There were also two wildfires burning near the northern arms of Sushwap Lake Thursday.

The B.C. Wildfire service said two wildfire, one located near Anesty ridge and estimated at one hectare in size, and the other near Seymour Arm and estimated at half-a-hectare, sparked just before 10 p.m. Wednesday, July 17. As with the other fires in the area, these incidents were suspected of being caused by lightning with no resources assigned.

The 5 hectare wildfire near Mara Mountain, east of Sicamous, also remained without any resources from the BCWS.

The BCWS did note that the Wap Creek wildfire, located near Revelstoke and Three Valley Gap, was considered Under Control as of Wednesday evening.
