RCMP keeping lid on details around Lavington incident, police watchdog investigating

RCMP are not releasing any details at this point about an incident that had multiple police officers and vehicles on Learmouth Road near Highway 6 in Lavington Thursday night.

The road was closed as a result of the incident.

Members of the Emergency Response Team were said to be the among the officers that responded.

The Vernon North Okanagan RCMP have referred Vernon Matters‘ request for comment to their E-Division headquarters.

“Your email has been forwarded to EDiv Strat Comm for follow up,” Cpl. Tania Finn of the local media relations department, said.

Simon Druker from the Independent Investigations Office confirms they are investigating the incident, but are not releasing any details at this point.

“If that changes, any information will be posted on the IIO website as well as through our two social media accounts, Facebook and X,” Druker told Vernon Matters.

The IIO is a civilian-led police oversight agency responsible for conducting investigations into incidents of death or serious harm that may have been the result of the actions or inactions of a police officer, whether on or off-duty.
