Vernon adopts zoning bylaw to comply with provincial legislation
The City of Vernon has condensed its zoning to align with B.C. regulations.
City staff spent the past three months condensing the property zones in Vernon to 19 types: Agricultural Land Reserve, Agricultural and Rural Large Block, Agricultural and Rural Small Block, Multi-Unit Small Scale, Multi-Unit Acreage, Multi Unit Medium Scale, Mobile Home Site, Medium Scale Housing, Resort Tourist Housing, Resort Commercial Centre, Commercial Mixed Use Neighbourhood, Commercial Mixed Use Business, Commercial Mixed Use Centre, Light Industrial, Airport Industrial, Community, Utilities, Parks and Natural Spaces, and Comprehensive Development Area.
As part of the work to rezone properties throughout Vernon to align with those categories, an online map has been released to allow people to see what their property, as well as links that can be followed to find descriptions as to what is permitted on subject properties.
The map also includes layers for people to see select areas such as Transit Oriented Development zones, flood hazard areas, water and sanitary mains, areas with no multi-family reservoir storage, and urban containment boundaries.
