School bus crashes on highway near Lac La Hache

RCMP say a second collision on Highway 97 near Lac La Hache has resulted in a death

Mounties attended the scene of a school bus crash that saw the vehicle go off the road and down an embankment at around 1 o’clock this afternoon

Police say there was a subsequent crash on the highway, where a pedestrian was stuck by a vehicle and pronounced deceased at the scene. It was not stated if the person was associated with the school bus.

The RCMP also note that first responders are assisting the roughly 30 students and adults who were on the school bus, all of whom were accounted for, and taking them to hospital for treatment of various injury

The highway remains closed to all traffic while investigators process the scene.

RCMP say a school bus crashed on Highway 97 Friday afternoon in the Cariboo community of Lac La Hache, north of 100 Mile House.

CFJC News said a photo from the scene appears to show a bus down an embankment from the roadway.

There is no word on any injuries.

Reports say the bus may have originated from 100 Mile House.

The highway is closed in both directions while emergency responders attend the scene.
