SPCA invites public to find out more about their services in Vernon

Jun 19, 2024 | 6:00 AM

The public is invited to an event in Vernon this weekend where they can find out more about the services the BC SPCA is providing in the community.

The animal protection agency says SPCA team members will be at the Elks Lodge #45 at 3103 30th Street on Saturday, June 22 from 1 to 4 p.m.

They will answer questions, offer information about animal welfare best practices, and provide educational games and activities for kids.

“It’s very exciting to have so many BC SPCA team members all together to engage with our community,” Nicholas Weeda, the BC SPCA’s community services coordinator for Vernon, said.”

“So much of the work that happens in Vernon is done behind the scenes so we’re eager to chat with people about all the incredible supports that exist for animals and their humans alike.”

In addition to Weeda, the SPCA’s humane education team, emergency response team, animal protection services team, volunteer community ambassadors, regional manager and RDNO dog control will also be at the event.

Vernon’s community animal centre, operated by the BC SPCA, closed down in November 2023 due to concerns about their building on Haney Road.

The society said it continues to serve the animal welfare needs in the Vernon area through a number of regionally-based programs and services as shown below.
