Two people deceased following a highway collision near Sorrento

A fatal collision involving two semis occurred on Highway 1 near Sorrento Monday night.

The RCMP said an eastbound semi-trailer failed to make a right turn, resulting in it flipping onto its side in the oncoming lane at approximately 11:45 p.m. May 27.

A westbound semi-truck was unable to stop on time and collided with the flipped trailer.

“Sadly, both the driver and passenger of the flipped semi-truck passed away at the scene,” Cpl. James Grandy, BC RCMP spokesperson, stated.

“The driver of the oncoming truck suffered minor injuries.”

Police said the investigation into the collision was ongoing, and asks anyone who witnessed or has dashcam footage of the collision to contact the Chase RCMP at 250-679-3221.
