Okanagan Military Tattoo hosting Sounds of Celebration this weekend

May 21, 2024 | 5:00 AM

The annual Okanagan Military Tattoo will be held a few months earlier than normal this year.

The Tattoo Society’s Sounds of Celebration will features nearly 400 performers on May 25 and 26 at Kal Tire Place.

The show was previously held in July, but was moved earlier to avoid issues with wildfires.

Organizers say the event will promote culture and heritage by showcasing performances by numerous different groups, including highland dancers; students from Enderby’s A.L. Fortune High School; Canadian Scottish Regiment Pipes and Drums; the Splatsin Indian Band; pipe bands from Vernon, Shuswap, Kelowna and Kamloops; Cadet Drill Teams; junior and senior choirs; City Dance Studio; Sunehri Make – Bhangra Dancers; the Calgary RoundUp Band; the Mount Arrowsmith pipe band; and the Naden Band of the Royal Canadian Navy.

The budgeted cost for this year’s Sounds of Celebration event is over $350,000, including $40,000 in support of regional performers and artists.

Over 100 volunteers will be working to ensure the weekend-long performing arts event runs smoothly.
