Armstrong-Spallumcheen is losing its first full-time fire chief.

The City of Armstrong, which shares a fire service with Spallumcheen, has announced that Ian Cummings is departing as chief and will become the new fire chief for Peachland on May 27, 2024.

Cummings provided three decades of service to the Armstrong-Spallumcheen department.

“We extend our gratitude to Chief Cummings for his service to the City of Armstrong,” Mayor Joe Cramer said. “Peachland will benefit from Chief Cummings’ leadership skills. We wish him success in his future endeavors.”

Cumming was Armstrong-Spallumcheen’s paid on-call fire chief from 2009 to 2017, when he became the first full-time leader of the department.

The search for a new chief will begin as soon as possible.

In the interim, Deputy Ian McKechnie will assume the role of interim chief until a permanent appointment is made.
