UPDATE: Wildfire west of Merritt ‘Being Held’

The wildfire located west of Merritt is no longer out of control.

The B.C. Wildfire Service (BCWS) said the blaze was classified as ‘Being Held’ as of 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 3, meaning it is not likely to spread any further in the current conditions.

At last update the fire was still 3.3 hectares in size and suspected to be human caused, and the BCWS had tasked a crew of 16 firefighters and one water tender to action the blaze.

A wildfire has broken out in the Nicola Valley.

The B.C. Wildfire Service stated a fire was discovered along Highway 8, east of Petit Creek and west of Merritt, at approximately 5:44 p.m. Tuesday, April 2.

As of 10:40 a.m. Wednesday, the fire was 3.3 hectare in size, classified as Out of Control, and was suspected to have been caused by human activity.

The B.C. Wildfire Service confirmed with Vernon Matters that a team of 16 firefighters and one water tender had been assigned to the fire.

DriveBC was not reporting any disruptions to area traffic as a result of the wildfire.
