UPDATE: Power restored to all Westside Rd. properties, road reopened

Power is back on for hundreds of BC Hydro customers.

The final 471 customers in the Killiney Beach area affected by an outage caused by downed lines had power restored just after 4 p.m. Wednesday.

Those properties had been without power for over 14 hours when the lights were finally turned back on.

Westside Road had been closed due to the downed lines, but DirveBC reported the road had reopened at 4 p.m. as well.

Two of the power outages on the west of Okanagan Lake have been resolved.

B.C. Hydro’s website stated the outage involving a tree down on a wire affecting 130 customers north of Killiney Beach, and the outage affecting 46 properties near Fintry, were both resolved before 2 p.m. Wednesday.

The other two outages in the Killiney Beach area have been combined into one incident.

The cause of the outage affecting the 471 customers was not known as of time of publication.

A B.C. Hydro crew was on site at last report, though a timeline for having power restored was not known.

DriveBC stated Westside Road was closed due to downed lines.

Fallen trees and branches have knocked out power to hundreds of properties on the west side of Okanagan Lake.

B.C. Hydro reported four outages in the Westside Road area that occurred overnight and early Wednesday morning.

The first outage, reported at 12:48 a.m. April 3, was the result of a wire down in the Killiney Beach area, affecting 425 customers. A crew had been assigned to the outage, though an estimated time for their arrival and for when power would be restored was not known.

The second outage, affecting 130 customers north of Killiney, occurred at 1:30 a.m. As of 10:25 a.m. Wednesday a crew was on-site, with plans to have power restored by 12:30 p.m. The cause of this outage remained under investigation as of time of publication.

A downed wire also knocked out power to 29 customers in the neighbourhood between Fintry and Ewing at 6:37 a.m. B.C. Hydro stated that a crew was assigned to the outage and was expected to be on the scene at 1 p.m.

The final outage Wednesday morning occurred at 7:11 a.m. and was affecting another 46 customers in the Killiney Beach area, and was the result of a tree down across wires. A crew was assigned to the outage and expected to be on the scene at 10:30.

The Vernon area saw strong wind gusts overnight.
