New radio station goes live in Kelowna

Kelowna’s newest radio station is now on-air.

OV 103.9, formerly known as The Lake, began broadcasting Tuesday, April 2.

It’s also known as That ’70’s Station, and will be playing favourites from the 1970s, as well as some tracks from the ’60s, by artists like the Beatles, Rolling Stones, Elton John, Chicago, Simon and Garfunkel, and Fleetwood Mac.

The revamped station will also provide listeners with hourly news updates on what is happening in Kelowna, The Okanagan, B.C. and beyond.

“Listeners told us they wanted to hear big hits, a big music library, and hourly local news and community information; it’s like the radio this audience remembers,” Corey Fischer, Program Director, said.

“OV 103-9 has the news you need and music you remember – for the first time together on FM, online and streaming.”

The change in music selection and the intention to provide more news to listeners through the OV 103.9 brand came following extensive research and discussions with listeners in the Okanagan Valley.

“Traditional radio serves a 25-54 age demo. We’ve built the new OV 103.9 to satisfy the over-50 demo in the Valley with music they remember,” Karl Johnston, General Manager, said.

“OV 103.9 is a contemporary radio station that reflects this audiences active lifestyle.”

The new station pays homage to the Okanagan’s legendary CKOV, which, in 1931, was the first radio station to go on air in the valley.

OV 103.9 is a business owned by Pattison Media Ltd., as is Beach Radio and Vernon Matters.
