UPDATE: No wildfire burning following reports of smoke near Ellison Park

Early reports of a wildfire turned out to be a false alarm.

Vernon Fire Rescue Services responded to three reports of smoke and fire near Ellison Park and Sparkling Hills Resort Monday, April 1.

VFRS arrived on the scene and confirmed there was no fire burning in the area.

Anyone who spots a wildfire is urged to report it to 911 and to the B.C. Wildfire Service at 1-800-663-5555 or by dialing *5555 on a cell phone.

Vernon may have seen its first first wildfire of year.

Dispatch reports at approximately 3:45 p.m. Monday April 1, stated several members of the public were reporting smoke and wildfire near Ellison Park and Sparkling Hills Resort.

Vernon Fire Rescue Services was sending crews to the scene, though no information on the possible blaze was available as of time of publication.

Vernon Matters has reached out to VFRS and the B.C. Wildfire Service for confirmation of the fire.

People who spot smoke and flames are reminded to report it to their local fire department, and wildfires should be reported to the B.C. Wildfire Service by calling 1-800-663-5555 or dialling *5555 on a cell phone.
