‘Get ready to turn back the clock’: VSS grad class invited to 40-year reunion
Prince’s Purple Rain ruled the airwaves, Ghostbusters was the top movie, TSN made its debut on Canadian TV, Wendy’s launched its legendary ‘Where’s The Beef’ campaign, and the Edmonton Oilers won their first of five Stanley Cups.
In the political world, Lyall Hanson was Vernon’s mayor, Lyle MacWilliam was the local MLA, Bill Bennett was B.C.’s premier, Vince Dantzer was the MP, and Canada had three prime ministers (Pierre Elliott Trudeau, John Turner and Brian Mulroney) in a span of a few months.
The year was 1984 which, if you didn’t already know, was 40 years ago.
That milestone will be celebrated this summer at the reunion for Vernon Secondary School’s Class of 1984 on July 19 and 20.
