One local golf course opens, others getting close

The golf season is already underway in the North Okanagan.

The Spallumcheen Golf and Country Club opened both its championship and executive courses Wednesday, March 13.

The courses are open to the public, and a member of the club confirmed with Vernon Matters that power carts are available for golfers.

Meanwhile, other area courses are still preparing for the new season, and plan to open soon.

Speaking with Vernon Matters, Adam Blair, the general manager of the Vernon Golf and Country Club, said their course will open this Thursday, March 21, but there will be some temporary closures.

“We are doing an irrigation replacement, so from Mondays through Saturdays we’re only 17 holes,” Blair stated, noting all 18 holes will be available on Sundays.

He said the holes affected by the irrigation work would vary from day to day, and all holes would be affected at one point or another, adding the work should be done by the end of June.

Meanwhile, the Hillview Golf Course’s website said its opening date will be April 4, but noted the driving range is already open.

Predator Ridge’s website indicated it will open on April 10.

The Rise, the course overlooking Okanagan Lake, will open a few days after Predator.

“The golf course opens April 12, that’s our opening date for the season,” Chad Scott, Director of Operations and Executive Professional of the Rise, told Vernon Matters.

Scott added work was ongoing to build the Edge, the new restaurant and bar that will also feature a golf simulator lounge and an event space, though stated it would not be ready for the opening of the golf season.

The Overlander golf course in Armstrong is planned to open April 15.

Neither Hillview or Predator Ridge responded to a request for comment from Vernon Matters.
