Fees for some academy programs rising in Vernon School District

Mar 15, 2024 | 7:00 AM

The Vernon School District’s board of education has approved fee increases for three of the district’s 12 academy programs.

The fees for hockey, baseball and freestyle skiing will rise by various amounts, starting this fall for the 2024-25 school year.

“The proposed fees are the maximum fees for the 2024/25 school year. However, based on enrollment numbers and other associated costs leading up to the start of the academy, the actual cost to the participants may be lower,” Luke Friesen, director of instruction, learning, told the board in a staff report.

The district pointed out that any student that qualifies to participate in an academy will not be excluded due to lack of financial means.

The actual fees for Students Without Borders Academy are yet to be approved by the Kalamalka Secondary School Parent Advisory Council.

The education board approved the fee hikes at its meeting on March 13.

The board also approved new fees for child care, transportation and school supplies for 2024/25 and international fees for 2025/26.
