Crash causes detours for highway traffic in Vernon

UPDATE 3:50 p.m.

One person was reportedly taken to hospital as a result of the crash on Highway 97 Friday afternoon.

“B.C. Emergency Health Services received a call at 1:41 p.m today, March 15, 2024, about a motor vehicle incident on Highway 97 and 48th Avenue in Vernon,” BCEHS Spokesperson, Bowen Osoko, toldVernon Matters in an emailed statement.

“One ambulance responded to the scene. Paramedics provided emergency medical treatment and transported one patient to hospital.”

The RCMP and Vernon Fire Rescue has not yet responded to a request for comment on the cause of the collision.

Two vehicles were involved in what was reported as a “high-speed, multi-vehicle collision” in Vernon’s north end on Friday afternoon.

RCMP, BC Ambulance and Vernon Fire Rescue were at the scene of what was reported as a t-bone crash that occurred at the intersection of Highway 97 and 48th Ave. at around 1:40 p.m.

Vernon Matters attended the scene and saw one vehicle, a green mini-van, being hooked up to a tow truck.

Traffic was being redirected onto 34th St., though it appeared the scene would be cleared shortly.

There is no word on the cause at this point.

Vernon Matters has reached out to the RCMP and Vernon Fire Rescue for further details.
