Enrolment expected to grow, then decline in Vernon School District

Mar 13, 2024 | 4:00 PM

Student enrolment is projected to increase in the Vernon School District this fall, and then drop the year after that.

A School District 22 staff report to the board of education projected net overall enrolment growth of 70 students in the 2024/25 school year.

An increase of 100 English Language Learning (ELL) students (30 per cent) is expected while all other demographic elements, such as students with funded inclusion designations, remain the same as present.

A decline of 40 students is forecast for the 2025/26 school year.

The Ministry of Education and Child Care will provide the school district with an estimate of next year’s operating grant on March 15, based on the enrolment forecasts.

Secretary treasurer Adrian Johnson said the actual operating grant will be adjusted to reflect the actual student numbers after the start of the school year.

According to the SD22 website, the district has about 9,200 students at 19 schools and in the district online learning school (vLearn) and alternate program, along with 1,317 staff.
