Sentencing date set for doctor who pled guilty to sexual assault

A Vernon doctor who pled guilty to sexual assault last week, will find out his sentence later this year.

The BC Prosecution Service says a sentencing date of June 6, 2024 has been set for Peter Inkpen in Vernon provincial court.

Inkpen entered a guilty plea to one count of sexual assault on Feb. 29.

No details about the charge have been released.

Inkpen, 42, is also facing five other sexual assault charges.

A trial got underway March 4 into one of the counts involving a former female patient.

The Prosecution Service provided an update on that trial, saying the judge will decide on a Charter argument by Inkpen’s lawyer on March 18, which will be followed by another Charter argument on April 3, and then on May 18, the final arguments on the trial by the Crown and defence will be held.

Well-known B.C. lawyer Richard Peck is representing Inkpen.

Four other charges of sexual assault against Inkpen are in court Thursday, March 7.

Now that a guilty plea has been entered on one of the charges, Vernon Matters reached out the College of Physicians and Surgeons of B.C. to find out if there will be any disciplinary action against Inkpen who is a pain management specialist.

“College complaints and investigations are protected under B.C.’s privacy laws. If an investigation leads to disciplinary action, this information is disclosed and remains on the public record,” the
College of Physicians and Surgeons of BC Communications and Public Affairs, told Vernon Matters, with no further details.
