Child porn case leads to prison time after second incident

Feb 22, 2024 | 12:18 PM

A man has been given a two-year prison sentence after an investigation by Kelowna RCMP into a child pornography case.

Police say Aaron James Paul was also placed under a number of conditions for 10 years and must register with the National Sex Offender Registry.

Officers say the man was initially sentenced to a 24-month conditional sentence in February 2023 for possession of child porn when he was put under house arrest and ordered not to possess similar material.

Officers then executed a search warrant at the man’s home in April 2023, and found evidence that supported additional charges of possession of child pornography.

“He was arrested for breaching the conditions of his conditional sentence order,” RCMP Cpl. Michael Gauthier said.

Paul pleaded guilty to those on Feb. 14, 2024.

The investigations were undertaken by the Kelowna RCMP’s Integrated Child Exploitation (ICE) unit which focuses on the possession and distribution of child sexual abuse material.

“Our ICE investigators remain dedicated in their pursuit of maintaining a safe community by holding those accountable who choose to exploit children of all our communities,” Cpl. Tim Russell of the Vulnerable Persons Unit, said.
