UPDATE: Crews respond to fire on Old Kamloops Road

UPDATE

Two people were displaced following a residential fire at a property on Old Kamloops Road north of Vernon Tuesday afternoon.

Dispatch reports first came in of the fire at approximately 3:15 p.m. with firefighters arriving on the scene and noting there was smoke but no visible fire.

The two residents of the home were reportedly unable to return home and were provided shelter by emergency support services.

Firefighters responded to a blaze north of Vernon Tuesday afternoon.

Initial dispatch reports came in at around 3:15 p.m. Feb. 20 of a structure fire at a property in the 7400 block of Old Kamloops Road.

The property is located just north of the Swan Lake RV Park and Campground on the west side of the lake in the Regional District of North Okanagan.

Reports shortly after 3:20 p.m. stated there was no fire showing from a single-family home on the property, but there was smoke and smoldering debris on the site.

Two people were reportedly being checked for smoke inhalation by Emergency Health Services at the scene.

Dispatch reports at approximately 3:40 p.m. stated fire crews from the BX/Swan Lake Department were ventilating the house.

A report at 4:15 p.m. stated fire crews were waiting for RCMP to arrive on the scene, adding paramedics were leaving the site. There was no update on the condition of the two people.

Dispatch reports Tuesday evening stated the house was not habitable, and the two residents would be provided with shelter through Emergency Support Services.

Vernon Matters has reached out to BX Fire for details on the blaze, including the cause and the extent of the damage.
