Investigators conclude probe into Vernon apartment fire

Fire officials say the cause of a fire at a Vernon apartment complex Wednesday was undetermined but accidental.

The blaze in one unit at Albert Place on 25th Avenue led to one person being taken to hospital with serious burns, according to dispatch reports.

Vernon RCMP say the injuries were not life threatening.

No word yet on the cause of a fire Wednesday’s at a Vernon apartment complex known as Albert Place on 25th Avenue.

One person was taken to hospital with what were said to be serious burns, and fire crews kept the blaze contained to one unit.

RCMP say they were called to assist Vernon Fire Rescue at the scene in the 3600-block of 25th Avenue.

Const. Chris Terleski said one person was taken to hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.

“The cause of the fire, while undetermined, is not considered suspicious at this time,” Terleski told Vernon Matters.

Canadian Mental Health Vernon says members of their housing team were among those that responded to the incident.

“We are grateful for the immediate response of Vernon Fire Rescue, BC Ambulance Service and members of our housing team, and we thank them for their quick action and professionalism,” Julia Payson, CMHA Vernon & District executive director, said.

“Our thoughts are with the resident of the unit who was injured and transported to hospital. We will continue to provide support to them as well as the other residents of Albert Place II and the broader community of CMHA participants and staff,” Payson added.

Vernon Matters has reached out to Vernon Fire Rescue for an update on the fire investigation.
