A fire that broke out at Albert Place in Vernon reportedly left one person with serious burns.

Dispatch reports came in at approximately 4 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 7, of a fire at a unit at the townhouse complex in the 3100 block of 25th Ave.

An ambulance was then called to respond to reports of one person suffering third degree burns.

Numerous fire, police and ambulance personnel were at the scene.

Emergency Health Services confirmed with Vernon Matters that an ambulance responded to the scene and transported one person to hospital, though did not provide details on the condition of the patient.

The fire was contained to a single unit.

“When crews arrived, there was heavy smoke and the sprinkler system was active,” Fire Chief David Lind said.

“Thanks to the efforts of the crew, the fire was contained to a single unit and did not spread.”

Vernon Fire Rescue Services said the cause of the fire remained unknown and was under investigation.
