UPDATE: COVID-19 outbreak at VJH ongoing, no new infections

The COVID-19 outbreak at Vernon Jubilee Hospital remains ongoing.

Interior Health first declared the outbreak at VJH’s 2 East/West Wings Thursday, Jan. 25.

As of Monday, Jan. 29, the illness had not spread and a total of six individuals were infected with the virus. The health authority did not state if there were any severe illnesses associated with the outbreak.

Protective measures remain in place to prevent further spread including enhanced cleaning and disinfection; increased use of personal protective equipment; and limiting visitors.

A COVID-19 outbreak has been declared at Vernon Jubilee Hospital.

Interior Health (IH) declared the outbreak at the 2 East/West wings of the hospital on Thursday (Jan. 25).

The health authority told Vernon Matters the outbreak involved six people as of Thursday, though they did not specify if they were all patients. It was also not said if the outbreak had resulted in any severe illness.

IH stated control measures were in place to prevent further spread of the virus, including enhanced cleaning and disinfection, increased use of personal protective equipment, and only allowing essential visitors into the affected area.
