RCMP say vehicle veered into oncoming lane, causing deadly crash near Monte Lake

RCMP say they still aren’t ultimately sure why two vehicles collided between Vernon and Kamloops earlier this week, resulting in the deaths of four people.

The crash took place on Highway 97 near Monte Lake at about 9:00 a.m. Tuesday (Jan. 16).

Const. Chris Terleski of Vernon North Okanagan RCMP said the preliminary investigation has determined a northbound vehicle carrying four occupants crossed the centre line, hitting a southbound vehicle head-on.

Terleski says investigators have yet to find any indication of why the northbound vehicle crossed into the path of the other vehicle.
