UPDATE: Trial of Vernon chiropractor accused of sexual assault rescheduled

Jan 16, 2024 | 10:45 AM

Update 10:30 a.m. Jan. 16

A Vernon sexual assault trial has been delayed by more than half a year.

Murray Kievit, a former chiropractor facing two charges of sexual assault from a patient in December of 2021, was due in Vernon provincial court for a trial Monday, Jan. 15.

At Monday’s appearance, Kievit’s lawyer requested an adjournment, which was granted.

Dan McLaughlin with the B.C. Prosecution Service told Vernon Matters that a pre-trial conference for Kievit had been scheduled for June 10, with the trial to start August 6, 2024.

McLaughlin did not provide any other information as the matter remains before the courts.

The trial of a former Vernon chiropractor facing sexual assault charges will start at a later date.

Murray Stephen Kievit is facing two complaints from one individual of sexual assault alleged to have occurred while he was working in December of 2021.

He was due in court for the start of a trial in provincial court Monday, Jan. 15, but the trial was adjourned following an application by Kievit’s lawyer to delay the start date for unspecified reasons.

The trial will be rescheduled for a future, yet to be determined, date.

The former doctor’s registration was permanently cancelled by the College of Chiropractors of B.C. in 2023.
