Schedule released for Hockey Canada’s championship event in Vernon

Some of the top young female hockey players will be coming to Vernon for a national event this spring.

The Women’s U18 National Club Championship, which is a Hockey Canada event, will be held at Kal Tire Place April 21-27.

The host team, the Thompson-Okanagan Lakers, will be joined by five regional champions from across Canada for The Esso Cup.

In the schedule that was released Tuesday, the host Lakers will play their first game on April 21 at 7 p.m. (all times Pacific) against the Atlantic winners, following matchups between the West and Ontario champions and Quebec and Pacific titlists earlier in the day.

The Lakers will also take on the Pacific on April 22 at 7 p.m., Ontario on April 23 at 5 p.m., the West on April 24 at 10 a.m. and Quebec on April 25 at 7 p.m.

After each team plays five preliminary round games, the top four clubs will advance to the semifinals on April 26, with the gold and bronze medal games scheduled for April 27.

The Stoney Creek Sabres beat the Fraser Valley Rush to win the 2023 Esso Cup which was held in Prince Albert, Sask.
