New contribution limits in place for political donations

Elections B.C. has updated its contribution limits for political parties.

The agency has calculated and adjusted contribution limits for 2024 in accordance with the Election Act, Recall and Initiative Act, and Local Elections Campaign Financing Act.

Under the new regulations, the maximum for provincial political contributions, provincial sponsorship contributions and for recall contributions are $1,450.82. The limit for local campaign contributions and local sponsorship contributions was set at $1,370.68.

It was noted the provincial political contribution limit does not include fees of up to $410 paid to attend a leadership convention or other event held by a political party. It also does not include money for personal election and personal nomination expenses.

The new limits mark increases from the previous year.

In 2023, the limit for provincial political contributions, provincial sponsorship contributions, and recall contributions were $1,401.40, while the limit for local campaign contributions and local sponsorship contributions were both $1,324.
