Quaker products recalled due to possible Salmonella contamination

A food recall warning has been issued for Quaker brand granola bars and cereals due to a possible Salmonella contamination.

Quaker says it issued the recall out of an abundance of caution and the Canadian Food Inspection Agency said there have been no reported illnesses.

Health Canada’s recall warning covers numerous potentially contaminated products:

Cap’n Crunch Treat Bars – Berry Bars (110 g / five bars), with best before dates between Jan. 11, 2024 and July 9, 2024

Health Canada says anyone who becomes sick from consuming a recalled product should contact their healthcare provider.

People in possession of the recalled food are advised not to consume, serve, use, sell or distribute the food. The products should be thrown out or returned to the location where they were purchased.

Health Canada stated food contaminated by Salmonella may not look or smell spoiled, but can make people sick, and children, pregnant women, the elderly and people with weakened immune systems are more vulnerable to the bacterial disease.

Symptoms of a Salmonella infection include fever, vomiting, nausea, abdominal cramps and diarrhea. Long-term complications from the infection may include severe arthritis.
