Driver charged in double fatal crash chooses judge with no jury

A deadly crash in Vernon in the summer of 2022, will be the subject of a trial in B.C. Supreme Court.

Michael Jordan Rodine appeared in Vernon provincial court on Jan. 11 and elected to be tried by a Supreme Court judge with no jury.

The accused is charged with two counts of criminal negligence causing death, two counts of causing death while driving with a blood alcohol concentration above the legal limit and two counts of impaired driving causing death.

A head-on collision on the morning of Aug. 5, 2022 between a pickup truck and a SUV, on Highway 97 near the Vernon Army Camp, claimed the lives of the two occupants in the SUV.

The victims were said to be a husband and wife, aged 71 and 65, from Vancouver.

Rodine, who was born in 1987, will next appear in provincial court Feb. 1 to consult counsel.
