Vernon and District Immigrant and Community Service Society (VDICSS) will provide an opportunity for the Queer community to explore and articulate their unique experiences.

The society has announced a poetry workshop dedicated to fostering creativity, self-discovery, and engagement centering on 2SLGBTQIA+ individuals starting on Jan. 11.

“Led by local poet Michelle Doege (https://www.michelledoegepoet.com/), and funded by the Government of Canada, these workshops aim to create an inclusive and supportive environment for participants to delve into their emotional selves,” a VDICSS news release stated.

Through poetry, individuals will have the opportunity to share their experiences to not only transform themselves, but also, that will resonate with others in the community.

“It is important in these times for us to listen to and learn from one another,” Doege said. “Poems written by Queer community offer a window into our worlds for others to peer into and hold the power for all of us to challenge norms, celebrate diversity, and foster a deeper sense of unity.”

The society said the workshops use a blend of self-reflection and creativity to create a all space where voices can flourish and contribute to the vibrant fabric of community life.

All 2SLGBTQIA+ individuals are welcome to join, whether they are an experienced poet or someone wanting to explore the world of verse for the first time.
