Dec 6, 2023 | 11:46 AM

One person died in a weekend crash south of Sicamous involving a logging truck.

Police say the truck collided with a Dodge Grand Caravan on Highway 97A near Mara Lake around 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 3.

Officers from the BC Highway Patrol from Revelstoke, Golden and Sicamous RCMP responded to the scene.

“Initial investigation has determined that the northbound logging truck crossed the centre line into oncoming traffic, and then crashed into the van. Tragically the driver of the van was pronounced deceased at the scene. No details regarding the occupants of the vehicles are being released at this time,” Inspector Chad Badry of the BC Highway Patrol in Nelson said.

Badry said road conditions were reportedly very poor at the time as the investigation into the cause continues.

“The driver of the logging truck was uninjured and is cooperating with the investigation,” the inspector added.

BC Highway Patrol is asking for anyone who may have witnessed this crash, or who may have dashcam video to contact BCHP Golden at 250-344-2221 and refer to file number 2023-4865.
