The leader of B.C.’s opposition will be in Vernon today (Nov. 14) at events aimed at promoting his party’s new local candidate.

Kevin Falcon will be meeting with Vernon-Lumby candidate Kevin Acton who was chosen by party members on Nov. 4 after defeating Dauna Kennedy, the only other person in the race.

The two Kevin’s will hold a question and answer session with local media at the Schubert Centre in the afternoon, and then will hold a meet and greet with supporters at Predator Ridge at 6 p.m.

Acton, who has been Lumby’s mayor since 2009, is the first BC United candidate in the newly-named riding (currently Vernon-Monashee), and takes over from former BC Liberal Eric Foster who was the MLA from 2009 to 2020.

Foster was defeated by current MLA Harwinder Sandhu of the New Democratic Party in the 2020 B.C. election.

Falcon has been the BC Liberal/BC United leader since February 2022, and won a by-election in former leader Andrew Wilkinson’s riding of Vancouver-Quilchena to become an MLA in April 2022.

The party changed its name to BC United on April 12, 2023.

The next provincial election is scheduled for Oct. 19, 2024.
